Japanese soccer star Keisuke Honda launches his own crypto

To raise fan engagement, a Japanese professional soccer player is launching his own cryptocurrency.

On Oct. 22, Cointelegraph Japan announced that Keisuke Honda, former Japan midfielder and currently captain of the Brazilian professional league team Botafogo, launched his own token to create new ties with his fans.

On Thursday, via Rally.io, a blockchain platform for creating video streaming and gaming applications, the so-called 'KSK Honda Coin' was released. The new coin is meant to allow fans to connect with Honda.

KSK Honda token holders will be able to get exclusive Honda content as well as connect with the player through Discord's private channels. In order to establish new links with our most loyal fans, we wanted to create a social token, "Honda said."

The world-renowned soccer player said the new token would allow him to interact more freely with fans, offering 100 percent accountability in knowing who in the fan community holds coins.

In pursuit of new ways to associate stars with their fans, the global football community is pushing deeper into the crypto and blockchain industry.

On Oct. 15, Zenit St. Petersburg, a top soccer club in Russia's Premier League, signed on to issue collectible and tradable digital cards to the blockchain-based gaming platform Sorare. A multi-year contract with the crypto trading platform StormGain was signed by the Italian professional sports club SS Lazio in September 2020, allowing new fan engagement opportunities through crypto.
